Trees bursting with color and gentle autumn breezes remind us it is fall in Columbus, Indiana! Now is the ideal time to get outside to leaf peep and make family-fun memories. Here are some not-so-scary and a few spine-tingling outings to put on your Octo-boo calendar.


On Saturday, October 16, Movies in the Park at Mill Race Park brings you The Nightmare Before Christmas. Written and created by Tim Burton, this stop-motion animated musical features the character Jack Skellington, King of Halloween Town. Through his adventures, Jack discovers Christmas Town, and there the story unfolds. The Nightmare Before Christmas has become a seasonal classic. So, bring a blanket, some hot apple cider, and your favorite snuggle buddy to watch this delightful, get-ready-for-Halloween flick.

The kidscommons will present two Halloween-themed events this month. On Sunday, October 17 from 3 pm – 5 pm, discover magic and enchantment at Hogwarts Halloween. Potion concoction, sorting hats, quidditch, wands and brooms are certain to sweep your family off their feet. Then round up your little ghosts and goblins for an indoor haunted trick or treat trail on Friday, October 29 from 6 pm – 7:30 pm. Mildly monstrous characters will deliver sweets and fearless fun. Tickets will be limited for both events, so reserve tickets in advance. 

Donner Park will host Halloween Fall Fest on Saturday, October 23. This not-too-frightening evening will feature costume contests for humans, devilish dogs and scaredy cats. Plus, the trick-or-treat trail promises to send you home with a frightful amount of sweets and snacks. It will be freaky-fun for the whole family, even for your boo-tiful pets. Frightening and Downright Bone-Chilling

Every eerie Friday and Saturday night in October, dare to be scared at Ceraland Park. Challenge yourself to make it through the ominous and terrifying woods, When Darkness Falls. Can you endure the phantom screams and horrifying sights? Do you have what it takes to make it through the disturbing and wicked darkness? We’ll be waiting for you. Get haunted hours and further frightening information about When Darkness Falls, be brave!

With so much fright, it is only on one night! Park of the Living Dead at Mill Race Park will be the scene of monstrous terror on Saturday, October 30. Sinister zombies will invade and surround you. Bring your courage and your scary skills to overcome the gruesome ghouls as you strive to survive. We wish you luck. You must be brave to lure these repulsive bodies back to the grave.
