This 2016 inaugural symposium, Foundations
This 2016 inaugural symposium, Foundations and Futures, is part of the Exhibit Columbus biennial exploration of architecture, art, design, and community that will alternate programming between symposium and exhibition years. This symposium will include an amazing line up of presenters and participants. In addition to a keynote session featuring the return of Columbus legends Deborah Berke, Will Miller, Robert A. M. Stern, and Michael Van Valkenburgh, one will get to hear form international experts in architectural history, community members who built and maintain many of the landmarks around the city, leaders in manufacturing and building fabrication, BCSC staff and students engaged in design-focused projects, and discussions with all ten of the designers selected to participate in the J. Irwin and Xenia S. Miller Prize Competition. Foundations and Futures was created as a way to (re)introduce the world to the remarkable history of Columbus, Indiana, while pointing to a bright future around design, fabrication, and education. Just as importantly, the symposium will set the stage for the 2017 exhibition of Exhibit Columbus, which will feature more than 15 temporary installations of architecture and art, all related to re-energize a global dialogue around design and community in Columbus.
