Anderson Falls, Hartsville

You might be surprised to know there is a stunning waterfall in the Columbus area. Nine miles east of Columbus, you’ll encounter a cascading waterfall that might take your breath away. A bit secluded, spending time surrounded by natural scenery and energy from the waterfall is a restorative experience.

Otherwise, bring your hiking shoes. The 44 acres park near Hartsville has two hiking paths of 1.75 and 2.25 miles. Navigating the rocky riverbanks and getting your feet wet is up to you.

Blue’s Canoe Livery, Edinburgh

Blue’s Canoes is an outdoor recreation center that facilitates canoe, kayak and raft trips on Driftwood River, just north of Columbus off I-65 Exit 76B. Drift through a secluded wildlife preserve that is alive with deer, beaver, blue heron, osprey and wild turkey. Ramp up the excitement paddling through occasional moderate rapids. Trips range from seven to nine miles. Large groups welcome. Primitive camping is available.

Jolie Crider Memorial Skate Park, Columbus

Designed by a Finnish landscape architect and former professional skater, Janne Saario, this skate park is as innovative as it is challenging. At 14,000 square feet, this concrete facility is spacious and lots of fun. While it is a dream destination for the serious skateboarder, beginners and kids on scooters will also get a skill-level appropriate thrill, too.
